About the Practice

Tegas Advocates.

Tegas Advocates was founded on a straightforward conviction: that commercial disputes are resolved more effectively when clients understand what is actually happening in their matter, rather than receiving a filtered version designed to manage expectations.

Practising from Shah Alam, we concentrate our practice on civil and commercial litigation in the Sessions and High Courts of Selangor, as well as arbitration and mediation proceedings. We act for businesses and individuals navigating contract disagreements, unpaid debts, shareholder disputes, and related commercial claims.

Our approach is to brief clients candidly at each stage — before commencing proceedings, at case management hearings, before trial, and on enforcement steps after judgment. There are no unnecessary surprises, and no pressure to proceed down a path that does not serve your interests.

We are advocates in the formal sense: we appear in court, we argue applications, we examine and cross-examine witnesses. We are also advisers in the practical sense: we tell you what we think the realistic range of outcomes is, and what each path is likely to cost in time, fees, and commercial energy.

How We Work

Standards we hold ourselves to.

Malaysian Bar Compliance

All advocates at Tegas hold valid Practising Certificates issued by the Bar Council. We conduct matters in accordance with the Legal Profession Act 1976 and the Solicitors' Accounts Rules.

Client Confidentiality

Legal professional privilege attaches to all communications between client and advocate. We maintain strict internal document controls and do not disclose client information to third parties without instruction.

Written Advice at Each Stage

We confirm material advice in writing — including our assessment of the matter, the steps we recommend, and the likely cost range. This gives clients a record and a basis to make informed decisions.

Responsive Communication

We aim to acknowledge client communications within one business day and to provide substantive responses within three. Court deadlines are tracked carefully and clients are notified well in advance of any required instructions.

Court Procedure Accuracy

Pleadings, affidavits, and applications are prepared with reference to the Rules of Court 2012 and the relevant Practice Directions. We do not let procedural defects create unnecessary exposure for clients.

Conflict Checks

Before accepting any new matter, we conduct a conflict of interest check against current and past client records. Where a conflict exists, we decline the matter and, where appropriate, suggest alternative counsel.

Practice Overview

Civil litigation counsel in Selangor.

Commercial disputes in Malaysia are governed by a framework of statutes, rules, and procedural conventions that have evolved considerably over recent years. The Rules of Court 2012 restructured the management of civil proceedings in the Sessions and High Courts, placing greater emphasis on active case management and timely disclosure. Tegas Advocates practises exclusively within this framework, and we invest time in staying current with amendments, judicial directives, and case law developments relevant to our practice areas.

Contract claims in Malaysia turn on both common law principles and, where relevant, specific provisions of the Contracts Act 1950. Debt recovery often proceeds on undisputed documentary evidence; where it is disputed, the factual and legal terrain can become more complex. Shareholder disputes under Section 346 of the Companies Act 2016 involve a distinct set of procedural considerations that differ from ordinary Writ actions.

We work with clients across Selangor and the Klang Valley — businesses, sole proprietors, and individuals — who need a considered and procedurally competent approach to resolving disputes that civil proceedings can address. Our chambers operates from Shah Alam, which places us in close proximity to the Shah Alam High Court and the Shah Alam Sessions Court.
